Consider this scenario. You have a water loss cased by a burst pipe, a bad hot water heater or a faulty toilet. Water gets out in the open and does its thing, which is to migrate downward. The floor almost always is involved and if you are fortunate enough to catch it early, the damage can be minimized by our Steamatic team who can remove the water and begin the drying process. In cases involving wood and laminate, water damage is difficult to reverse, but sometimes flooring can be saved as with carpet where pad replacement, a good cleaning and re-stretching work just fine. Either way, with adequate homowners insurance, you likely have a covered loss and will receive some compensation to restore your floor. Now what?
With insurance, you can restore to pre damage conditions. We have found carriers to be very sensitive and supportive in helping their customers get their home back to its “pre loss” state. Alternatively, you can opt to take your insurance proceeds and do what our friends did with their bathroom. They have a beautiful home where they “inherited” carpet in the master bath. After their hot water heater gave up the ghost, we dispatched our Steamatic team to clean up and dry out the place. During drying, it looked something like this:

Existing carpet on the bath floor; the far corner has been lifted with an air mover under it for drying.
Our friends took the “involuntary remodel” opportunity to upgrade by adding a little to the insurance proceeds. After working withJenny, one of our Designers, they were able to replace the carpet with beautiful, matching saltillo tile throughout the master bath. So instead of the “before” look above, they now have the new saltillo tile look throughout the master bath “after” their loss as you see below:
The new look was worth the hassle of the water damage disruption. You can’t pick when a little rain (or water) will fall, but you can look for the silver lining in the rain clouds! And something else to consider, with our GE Money credit program, qualified buyers can finance the cost of an upgrade and even their deductible. So if rain falls in your home, call us…we can help. And if it doesn’t rain but it’s still time for an upgrade, call us…we can still help!
