Tile & Stone Gallery

When thinking of tile as a flooring choice, man-made ceramic or porcelain square often come to mind. But today, tile can be anything from natural stone - like granite, marble and slate - to kiln-fired clay and shale. And, of course, this flooring category also includes the ceramic and porcelain tile family that has been popular for decades. The popularity of tile as a flooring choice derives from its practicality. It's easy to keep clean, because it's moisture-resistant. It's durable, so the surface won't fade or stain. It adds rich style to any room. And, it can be used below, on, or above grade, all attributes that can make tile one of the most flexible flooring choices around.
More to consider...
Keep in mind that tile is a hard surface, so standing on it for extended periods of time can be fatiguing.
Cost: There is a wide range in tile costs. Expect to pay from $.75 to $14.00 per square foot for the tile itself. The price of tiles goes up with the number of glazes. Better tiles have three or more glazes. If you desire the look of natural stone but don't want the added expense, consider less expensive porcelain tile as an option.
For labor, add $4.00 to $6.00 per square foot for the installation of flooring tile. For backsplashes, showers, and other non-flooring installations, labor will vary depending on the complexity of the work to be done, patterned installations and other factors. For these reasons, such tile jobs are generally quoted on a job by job basis.Learn more about Installation and Care of Tile & Stone Flooring...
